THE DISTINGUISHED GRASSROOTS MOBILIZER

A person who represents his/her people needs to be close to them. A representative needs to interact with the masses and do so on a steady basis in order to ascertain their needs and challenges. What good are you as a government representative if you don’t know or understand the plight of your own people?

Many legislators claim to be grassroot politicians when in fact they have little or no ties and/or interactions with their constituency and constituents. Fortunately for the people of Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka Federal Constituency, the individual representing them is someone who is a willing and able grassroots mobilizer.

Hon. Dozie Ferdinand Nwankwo is a man who cherishes the opportunity to be with his people. He realized long ago that a legislator must be in tune with the masses if he/she is to do her job effectively.

Despite his numerous engagements, having to sit for sessions, upholding family obligations and businesses (which virtually all exist outside the constituency), there is almost no week our representative doesn’t touch down in his constituency.

All the while he’s been in town, Akalaka na Nteje hosts town hall meetings, attends consultations and private meetings, conducts charity works, oversees party affairs, supervise dozens of projects and goes for uncountable condolence visits. Anything that brings him closer to his people, thereby making him a better leader and representative, he’s always willing to embrace.

This attitude over a long period of time  has made Onyendozi a powerhouse in terms of grassroots mobilization. This was well evident as he led the Anambra Central Soludo Campaign team to a resounding victory in the recently concluded gubernatorial elections.

After being a distinguished member of the Green Chambers for the last eight years, he has not forgotten that he was sent there on behalf of others. It’s a sure bet that this type of ‘down to earth’ politics will continue if he becomes the Senator representing Anambra Central.

Hon. Prince Chido John Nwankwo
