Rivers Crisis: Senator Victor Umeh Denies Dollar Allegations, Warns Sahara Reporters Over False Claims

Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, has strongly denied allegations by Sahara Reporters that he received financial inducements to support the State of Emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Rivers State.
In a statement, Umeh condemned the report as false and misleading, describing it as part of a pattern of serial blackmail against him. He noted that this was the third time Sahara Reporters had published fabricated stories about him.
“I did not receive any money to support the approval of a State of Emergency in Rivers State. I was not at any meeting where such payments were allegedly made,” Umeh asserted.
The senator further clarified that on the evening of Tuesday, he was present at the traditional IFTAR (Breaking of Fast) gathering at the Senate Guest House with Muslim colleagues. According to him, after Senator Adamu Aliero led the Muslim prayers, he was invited to offer Christian prayers.
“I prayed for peace in Nigeria, reconciliation in Rivers State, and unity among Nigerians. At no point during the IFTAR was the State of Emergency discussed,” Umeh emphasized.
Describing the allegations as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image, Umeh reassured his constituents that he remains focused on his duty to provide quality representation. He accused his detractors of trying to create disaffection between him and the people of Anambra Central.
“This is not the first time Sahara Reporters has published false information about me. Their continuous blackmail is unacceptable, and I am warning them to desist. I will not be distracted from serving my people with dignity and integrity,” he declared.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that opposition lawmakers were excluded when the Senate approved the State of Emergency in Rivers State on Thursday. While some lawmakers argued that the move was necessary to restore order, others claimed it was a threat to democracy.
