Police Arrest Four Over Brutal Murder of 74-Year-Old Woman in Ifitedunu, Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a 74-year-old woman in a wheelchair in the Ifitedunu area of the state.

The incident, which occurred around 9:00 AM on Sunday, has sent shockwaves through the community. The police confirmed that the prime suspect, 21-year-old Chinyere Ekwenugo, conspired with others to set the elderly woman ablaze. The main perpetrator, identified as Ifeanyi Igwe, is currently on the run.

According to the police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had already procured a casket to bury the woman before security operatives intervened. The three other suspects arrested include Uzochukwu Okeke (47), Fidel Anayo (60), and Ikenna Anene (54), all residents of Abagana.

Recovered from the crime scene were the charred remains of the deceased, her wheelchair, and the casket. The police have deposited the body in the morgue for an autopsy and further investigations.

Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough probe. He has also assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Ifeanyi Igwe.

Police Clamp Down on Cult Activities in Abagana

In a related development, police operatives from the anti-cult unit at Enugwu Ukwu arrested 25-year-old Maduka Okoye of Abagana for cult-related activities. Acting on intelligence, security personnel moved in at 1:30 PM on Saturday and recovered three expended cartridges from a shooting scene in the Ezichike community.

During interrogation, Okoye confessed to being a member of the Baggars Confraternity and revealed that he and his friends were drinking at a beer parlour when they were attacked by members of the rival Axe Men Confraternity.

The police have intensified efforts to arrest fleeing members of both cult groups and ensure that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice.

The Anambra State Police Command continues to call on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies to curb criminality in the state.
