Yesterday, 22nd of March 2025, I undertook a legislative oversight tour of projects in Ekwulobia town. This was in response to the ravages experienced in the wake of early rains last week and to assess the environmental impact of major construction projects.

My first point of inspection was at Umunkwo Quarter, Ula-Ekwulobia where at the lowest point serving as the drainage exit terminal for water from both sides of the newly dualized road, the construction company has not installed a proper exit channel to guide the flood into the anticipated zero point. I emphasised that this is not the fault of the government but that of the construction company. The government has paid for the job. In the coming week, we will be engaging the construction company to fulfil its obligation in the contract. I alsk visited Umuekpili Quarter, Ula-Ekwulobia where a similar situation was observed.

At Agba Village, I inspected the ongoing construction of the Eke Market by-pass road whch links directly to the Ekwulobia – Nnewi road.. I discovered that the width of the road section excluding the flood channel is 6 meters. This information will be forwarded to the Ministry of Works to ensure compliance with relevant sections of the contract document.

It is important to note that Mr. Governor has awarded these roads and has paid all fees as per the contract agreement. The contractor must then fulfill all obligations as contained in the contract. Ours is to monitor and conduct oversight to ensure that no one is sabotaging the efforts of Mr. Governor. .

At Umuchi Village, I inspected the massive flood mega drainage system being built by the government to direct heavy floods away from the residential / commercial area into the Oko-Ekwulobia low bed ecosystem. I engaged with site Engineers of Tamad Construction handling the project and pointed out the areas of concern, which they promised to correct. They also promised to deliver the project in the next 40 days within the contract schedule. At my intervention, the company offered to assist the family whose home was flooded last week as a result of blockage of the flood channel. All relevant concerns will be forwarded to the Ministry of Works.

I was joined in the tour by the President General of Ekwulobia Town Union, Chief Azubike Ezechukwu, his executives, the Chairmen of the respective villages, the APGA village and ward Chairmen of the affected villages and the two wards as well as some stakeholders of Ekwulobia town including the CEO of Cherry Group of Companies.

Overall, I thank Mr. Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo CFR for the massive work he is doing in our constituency and in the whole of Anambra State. The reward for good work they say is more work. Therefore, the people of Aguata II constituency will continue to offer massive support to our dear governor and to this government.

4 + 4 = 8.
