EFCC Officer Killed in Anambra by Armed Internet Fraudsters.
Anambra State was thrown into turmoil on Friday following a deadly attack on operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by armed internet fraudsters, resulting in the tragic death of an officer and leaving another critically injured.
The EFCC officers were on a mission to apprehend a group of suspected cybercriminals, popularly known as Yahoo Boys, when they encountered unexpected gunfire. The assailants opened fire on the team, forcing the officers to flee for safety.
The deceased officer, an assistant superintendent, had recently completed a promotional examination before the unfortunate incident. Meanwhile, the injured officer remains in critical condition at an undisclosed hospital as of Friday night.
Confirming the attack, Anambra State Police Command Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that investigations are underway.
“Investigation into the sad incident is ongoing. The suspect is in custody while the arm has been recovered. Further details shall be communicated, please,” Ikenga said.
The tragic event has heightened concerns over the safety of law enforcement agents and the increasing boldness of criminal elements in the state. Residents and security experts are calling for swift justice and enhanced measures to curb such violent attacks.
