A community leader in Isuaniocha, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Chief Tony Onyeagolu, has urged the Agunechemba security outfit to remain focused on its duty of ensuring security and justice in the state, despite criticisms trailing its activities.

Onyeagolu, a former President General of Isuaniocha Town, commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for establishing the security outfit, noting that its role in enhancing safety across communities should not be undermined. He maintained that Agunechemba must remain steadfast and not be discouraged by opposition from individuals who may feel threatened by their work.

The community leader made these remarks while reacting to reports concerning the arrest and detention of Mr. Onyemazu Ngini, who was apprehended by Agunechemba operatives over allegations of land grabbing and running a criminal gang under the guise of youth leadership. He urged the security outfit to ensure a thorough investigation into the allegations before proceeding with any legal action.

According to Onyeagolu, the accusations against Ngini, including land theft and links to armed criminals, should not be taken lightly as they pose serious security concerns. He dismissed calls for Ngini’s release without trial, describing them as attempts to subvert justice.

He also commended Chief Ken Emeakayi, leader of the Agunechemba security outfit, for his commitment to tackling insecurity and ensuring peace across Anambra communities. He stressed that public safety must not be compromised by personal grievances or political rivalries, urging all stakeholders to allow due process to take its course.

Onyeagolu further revealed that Mr. Ngini had previously been declared wanted by the Nigerian Police for alleged involvement in kidnappings and an armed attack on police officers from AIG Zone 13, IRT, and Anti-Cult units, who had made multiple attempts to arrest him. He praised Agunechemba operatives for their efforts in capturing the suspect and advised them to either charge him to court or hand him over to the Inspector General of Police for further prosecution.

He criticized those opposing the arrest, stating that security operations should be guided by facts and evidence rather than political or emotional considerations. He called on Ngini’s family and associates to provide concrete evidence if they believe the allegations against him are false, rather than making unverified claims aimed at diverting public attention.

Onyeagolu reminded residents of Isuaniocha about past violent encounters allegedly linked to Ngini and his gang, particularly their reported attack on police officers, which left many officers wounded. He insisted that those invited by Agunechemba should submit themselves for questioning rather than resisting arrest.

The community leader also urged Governor Soludo to remain focused on addressing security challenges in Isuaniocha and to act on the white paper submitted by a previous panel of inquiry regarding the crisis in the town. He reiterated that security efforts must not be derailed by distractions, calling on all residents to unite against crime and work together to sustain peace in the community.
