Day two of the three days sensitization programme against child/human trafficking, abuse and labour which featured a road walk from Aroma down to Nkwo Amaenyi and back successfully, occurred on Thursday the 24th of March, 2022.
According to the state commander of NAPTIP, Mrs. Judith Ibadin Chukwu, the road walk is one of the preventive measures that can be used to bring a great reduction in the act of trafficking due to the level of awareness it brings to the people.
For orderliness and uniformity, the organizers and volunteers of the programme wore a green t-shirt with the logo depicting #saynototrafficking and the organization A-TIPSOM boldly written on it.
The organizers and volunteers with their banners, placards and music matched down the streets creating awareness to the people. Fliers were distributed and adequate well-detailed information about trafficking, child abuse and labour were dispersed to the people.
Mrs. Ijeoma Nnaji the zonal coordinator of NACTAL spoke to the market people about the dangers associated with entrusting their children to a stranger or friend. She explained the different ways people fall victims to human trafficking which are the search for a brighter future in Europe, the promise of a well-paying job etc.
She further emphasized that strangers are not the only perpetrators of human trafficking rather friends and families are now partakers of such insolent acts. Lastly, she warned the perpetrators to desist from human trafficking as they will be persecuted when caught and advised the market people that when “they see something, they should say something”.
The state coordinator of NACTAL, Mrs. Eukeria Onyemaobi told Anambranews correspondent that the sensitization programmes will be extended to various villages in the southeast as the rural areas are mostly hunting grounds for these perpetrators.
Everybody with their voice so high continuously chanted the say no to trafficking slogan till the end of the road work.
The sensitization programme continues tomorrow Friday 25th, 2022 at schools in Awka where students will be educated on the causes, risks, and dangers attached to human trafficking and illegal migration.
