Achebe, Nworah, Nwankwo, Anyaoku, Tansi, Others, To Receive State Award

Some prominent individuals from Anambra have been selected to receive some awards on Wednesday 9th March 2022. The awards to be given are: ‘Distinguished Anambra State Grand Commander Medal’, ‘Distinguished Anambra State Commander Medal’, and ‘Anambra State Merit Award’.

These awards would be given to respected personalities who have made Anambra proud in different fields.

The first award, ‘Distinguished Anambra State Grand Commander Medal’ is for figures who have kept the light of the state shining within and outside the country especially when it comes to politics and government affairs. The award ranks highest in the hierarchy of awards given by the state.

Following it is the ‘Distinguished Anambra State Commander Medal’. This award is for eminent individuals who the state boasts of and who have made significant impacts in areas like commerce, law, sports, art, etc.

Coming after it is the ‘Anambra State Merit Award’. This is for personalities who know what it means to serve the state. People in this category are dedicated to service and have striven for a better Anambra through their great works and relentless acts of service. The award is also for budding and innovative geniuses in various fields.

Some of the figures to be awarded the Distinguished Anambra State Grand Commander Medal are the father of African literature, late Prof Chinua Achebe, former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, late Blessed Iwene Tansi, late Olauda Equiano of the British abolitionist movement and others.

For the Distinguished Anambra State Commander Medal, we have the state’s Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Obi Nwankwo, the managing director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Dr. Uche Nworah, Senator Michael Ajaegbo, and others.

For the third award, the Anambra State Merit Award, some of the nominees are the principal of Government Technical College, Onitsha, Dr. Vera Udoye, and Agnes Maduafokwa, who had the highest score in JAMB in 2020, and other prominent people.

Other dignitaries will be present as well as the popular singer and songwriter, Flavour N’abania. The executive governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano will decorate the awardees.
