Art, science, and technology have become the order of the day in today’s world. This is why the young ones are being encouraged to use them as tools to make the world a better place.
Bishop Crowther Seminary Awka, an all-boys missionary boarding school under the Anglican Diocese of Awka, is not left out in this global trend. The school recently had its science and art week.
The school’s 2022 art and science week was titled “The place of science and arts in contemporary society”. The objective is to get the students to explore the fields of art and science and have a knowledge of their effects on the present man’s life.
Professor Josephine Okoli, a professor of Science Education at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, talked about how the activities of the world are bound to the direction of science and how it holds life’s branches.
She also spoke on the general notion people have of science as a tough field. About this, she said that science is not much of a hard nut to crack when you equip yourself with dedication and the right mental focus. She remarked that being in the field of science helps you think more clearly, imagine, analyze, create and turn dreams into reality.
She admonished the students to be dedicated to their studies, be active during practical sessions, and have reading groups. She said they would be more productive when they put heads together to design the world to have a great shape.
Associate Professor Chude Okeke, a lecturer of Arts at Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, spoke on the field of art. He said that parents look down on art and see the same as the course for the unfit. According to him, people do not see art as a subject that exists on the radar of the bright and intelligent ones; for this reason, they disregard it. They forget that art guides your thoughts and judgment and fills you in with life’s principles that would change your life for the better.
Venerable Nnamdi Enendu, the school principal, encouraged the students in the two fields to keep up their quest for innovation and go further in their journey through art and science.
Ejikeme Ositadinma and Emmanuel Okoye, who are students of the school displayed to the audience some of their creative works and gave speeches on how science influences life. The highlight of the event was during the display of works depicting the fields of art and science.
